Analysis and Testing Committee of the Chinese Society for Metals

Founded in 2002, the Analysis and Testing Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) is a subordinate to the General Iron & Steel Research Institute, aimed at building an “academic exchange platform for analysis and testing in the field of metallurgy & material”. Its tenet is to “help improve analysis and testing in the domestic field of metallurgy and materials”. Its predecessor was the Physical and Chemical Inspection Academic Committee of CSM, which was founded in June 1979 and restructured to “Physical and Chemical Inspection Professional Society of CSM” in August 1985. In 2001, the Physical and Chemical Inspection Professional Society of CSM and the NDT Professional Society of CSM were merged into the Analysis and Testing Branch of CSM, and the 1st committee was elected. The current 3rd committee is made up of 66 members, Jia Yunhai and Bao Lei being the chairman and secretary general, respectively.

As of its founding, Analysis and Testing Branch of CSM has developed numerous activities of academic exchange and technical training, playing an important role in pushing development of analysis and testing technologies and improving technicians’ technical level. It undertakes the tasks below.

(1) Organize and get involved in domestic and overseas academic exchanges to promote new technologies, methods and instruments for analysis and testing (among the activities, the biennial meeting “International Conference & Exhibition on Analysis & Testing of Metallurgical Process & Materials” (CCATM) is influential in the industry, involving more than 800 participants and more than 60 exhibitors);

(2) Organize preparation of metallurgical analysis book series, track development of metallurgical analysis and testing technologies, recommend frontier technologies and new methods emerging in development of metallurgical analysis and testing (so far, 12 volumes of metallurgical analysis book series have been published);

(3) Under guiding by National Training Committee for Analyzing & Testing Personnel (NTC), carry out specialized technical training, promotion of new technologies and new achievements, review and recommendation of scientific achievements as well as appraisal and exhibition of instruments together with National Analysis and Testing Network and China Association for Instrumental Analysis (CAIA);

(4) Get involved in organization of inter-lab comparison in the industry, push laboratory capability verification together with Metal Proficiency Verification Group of China National Accreditation Committee for Laboratories (CNACL) and China NIL Research Center for Proficiency Testing, offer reliable quality control methods for verifying analysis & testing capability of lab;

(5) Undertake acquisition, refereeing, edition, publication and distribution of the authoritative analysis technology periodical in the field of metallurgy & material, Metallurgical Analysis, as one of the hosts;
