The 195th China Engineering Science and Technology Forum-Progress Forum for Instruments and Testing Technology (PFIT'2014) was ceremoniously held in Beijing

On October 19-21, 2014, the 195th China Engineering Science and Technology Forum - Progress Forum for Instruments and Testing Technology (PFIT'2014) was ceremoniously held in Beijing International Conference Center. This Forum was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and undertaken by China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, with the CAE academician Wang Haizhou acting as chairman of the organizing committee. Meanwhile, the 4th China Reference Materials & Proficiency Testing Forum（4thRM&PT）cosponsored by CNASCA (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment) and CAS (China Association for Standardization) and the ICASI’2014 CCATM’2014 International Conference on Analysis & Testing of Metallurgical Process & Materials supported by International Committee for Analysis of Iron and Steel Industry (ICASI) and cosponsored by the Chinese Society for Metals and China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group were jointly held. Eight academicians from CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering) and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) attended the conferences and gave wonderful reports. More than 20 overseas delegates from over 10 countries and regions such as the United States, Germany, Austria, Britain, France, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Australia, Japan, India and China Taiwan as well as more than 800 domestic experts, scholars and analysis test workers in the related fields attended the event. In order to strengthen communications among the domestic and foreign instrument researchers, entrepreneurs and instrument users in the academic and industrial circles for scientific instrument and testing technology, the conference simultaneously held the “International Exhibition on Testing and Quality Control (TQC)” and attracted more than 50 well-known domestic and overseas instrument manufacturers, national-level analytical test centers and scientific research institutes.

On the joint conference, the former vice president of CAE and chairman of the joint conference - GanYong academician made an opening speech and the vice president of CAE-Xu Delong academician made a welcoming speech. The academicians from CAE and CAS; the principals and experts from ICASI and ISO/REMCO and other international organizations; the professors and experts from such domestic and overseas famous universities and research institutes as American Harvard University, Italian University of Padua, Austrian International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and German BAM as well as China’s Tsinghua University, University of Science & Technology Beijing(USTB), China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, Institute of High Energy Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences, China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment and National Institute of Metrology, plus the experts, scholars and entrepreneurs of the domestic and overseas scientific instrument industrial circles, attended the conference and made reports, mutually discussing the latest achievements and development tendency as well as the technology for effectiveness evaluation of the testing technology and results in the material genome project -high throughput characterization and other relevant aspects. This conference specially invited domestic and overseas experts and scholars to make 15 specially-invited lectures, 44 plenary lectures and more than 150 organization special reports, with 512 academic papers collected. This conference also invited domestic famous instrument technical experts to have specially discussed the development trend of the instrument-related technology and released the instrument appraisal report of China Association for Instrumental Analysis (CAIA).

The developmental level of scientific instruments and testing technology is an important symbol to measure the scientific and technological level of a country, as well as one of the important reflections of a country’s advancement in the high-tech area. The joint conference, as a series of summits for strategic development and technical discussion, focused on discussing the development trend of the new material characterization instruments and testing technology, as well as the technology for effectiveness evaluation of the whole-process detecting system characterization and quality control, plus test results to have achieved the organic connection of Scientific Instruments - Testing technology and Outcome Evaluation. The conference provided valuable reference for the construction of the CAE science and technology thinking bank from scientific instruments, test and evaluation technology development strategy, which will powerfully promote the development of scientific instruments and testing technology in China to meet the needs of scientific and technological innovation, economic development and social progress.
